Russell
Russell has been interested in flying and aerodynamics
since he was 6 years old. After flying model airplanes all during
his childhood, he went to M.I.T. where he received a B.S. in Aeronautical
Engineering in 1985.
Shortly after graduation, he moved to California
to work on optimizing the wind-turbines in the windfarms near Livermore.
After spending 10 years hang-gliding, he took
his first sailplane ride and was hooked. In 1995 he received his
Private glider rating, followed in 1998 by his Commercial, and 1999
by his Instructor rating.
Russell has been the volunteer instructor for
our Youth Soaring Program since 1998, and helps to develop course
material and seminars for the HGC.
